Beer Builds Houses!

On Tuesday (9/10) the McFleshman’s team won’t be serving pints but will be throwing hammers instead! We‘re joining the crew at Habitat for Humanity to help build a house! Habitat is one of our favorite charities. Did you know Habitat for Humanity builds homes for families in every US state and in more than 70 countries around the world! I love going to our local Habitat ReStore but had no idea the charity served folks globally! According to their website; Habitat’s vision is of a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Habitat works toward this vision by building and improving homes in partnership with individuals and families in need of a decent and affordable place to live. Habitat for Humanity was started in 1976 by Linda and Millard Fuller our of Georgia. It has since grown to one of the largest charitable housing organizations.

Last year, we were excited to brew a beer for the Habitat cause. Several local breweries were given malt from Briess Malt out of Chilton, WI to brew a beer for Habitat with proceeds going to construction of a local home. Read the full story here! The cool thing was each brewery got to decide on a style of beer that would be their contribution to the “House that Beer Built”. After a few days of throwing ideas into the mix we decided on a German style beer: the Dunkelweizen. A “dunkel” is a dark weizen or wheat beer with forward malt character and subtle bitterness that’s just enough to balance the sweetness of the malt. Given that Briess donated all the malt for the cause it seemed appropriate to brew a style that would really celebrate the complexity of such great malts! To honor Habitat we named the beer the Brew House Dunkelweizen. Brewhaus is the name of the brewing system comprised of a brew kettle and mash tun (the two big copper pots that make the wort).

Our Brew House DunkelWeizen was a hit and will be returning to our taps soon! Until then, please enjoy our Oktoberfest which is equally delicious!

Cheers!
