McFleshman’s Saturday Spring Music Series, Over a Pint, brings you and the artists into our beer garden to enjoy the warmth of their music and hear the stories behind the songs.
This week: Genevieve Heyward

Since she can remember, Wisconsin based singer-songwriter Genevieve Heyward has grown up with music in her life. Adept at both guitar and piano, she writes her songs based on raw emotion and relatable experiences that cuts through with melody and sultry tone. Straight out of high school, she dove head first into music: touring nationally and internationally, either by herself, with her band, or with other well renowned artists. She has released numerous records throughout her career and doesn’t plan on stopping. Her music has hints of indie folk, bedroom pop and indie piano pop, all tied in with her own spin and topped off with a unique and rich voice. Her songs and performing style incorporates humor and connection, making the audience feel heard and immersed.

After releasing her first album before graduating high school, “It’s Not Like Anyone’s Listening”, she went on to tour through the United States by herself or with other artists. She then released her second Ep, “The River” in 2019 at Painted Recordings. The Ep’s title track “The River” was co-written by Pat MacDonald, whose songwriting credits include collaborations with Cher, Keith Urban, Imogen Heap, Stewart Copeland of The Police and Peter Frampton. While recording and writing, she toured across the United States in Tennessee, California, Texas, Vermont, and eventually headed overseas where she did her first headlining European tour through Norway accompanied by a band. After returning she released her latest album, “The Norway EP”, which she had the opportunity to record in Scandinavia. Now she is currently working on her next project and planning on getting back to the road

McFleshman’s Saturday Summer Music Series, Over a Pint, brings you and the artists into our beer garden to enjoy the warmth of their music and hear the stories behind the songs.
This week: TAE

Born and raised in Green Bay, WI, TAE is an original artist, with works in the directions of R&B, Soul, and Pop-Rock. Don't be surprised to find a wide array of instrumentation and surprising surges of various styles within her art.

With many words to say and stories to tell, Tae’s work stands as a force to inspire social change and bring awareness to listeners about the dynamics of the world, ranging from macro to micro. While touching on more worldly topics, inner human dialogue is also of common topic. She focuses greatly on the concepts of self love, love received, and love given.

Tae has performed mainly as a soloist since 2012 and since 2019 she has been traveling with her music across the United States and reaching listeners further than that with the debut of her first full length album, “What Love Is” which was released January 1, 2020. After this album released, she joined forces with four other musicians [Andy Welsch, Daniel Pingrey, David Blessent, and Kelvin Kaspar]; creating a new project called TAE & The Neighborly. They are currently recording an album, projected to be released Spring 2022.

McFleshman's Brewing Co.115 S State StAppleton, WI54911 Map

Join McFleshman's Brewing Co in welcoming Gin Mill Hollow our Beer Garden stage!
Over seven years and more than 450 shows played, the ever-evolving Americana outfit Gin Mill Hollow has been showcasing their unique approach to string-band music throughout the Midwest and beyond. Born as an acoustic duo at the Up North Bar in Madison, WI, the group found traction in the area after adding mandolin and eventually percussion to the mix. Now a solid four-piece band, Gin Mill Hollow's live performances look and sound more like a rock show with electric guitar and effected mandolin solos soaring over driving rhythm and harmony, blending genres like bluegrass and folk music with jazz and blues. Plotting their third tour west to Colorado for April of 2022, the quartet are regularly playing bigger venues to larger crowds and are poised to ride that momentum into the summer festival circuit in the coming year. With two studio albums to their credit, the band plans to record new material over the winter months in the hopes of a new release not far behind.

This week: J.E. Sunde

J.E. Sunde (Jonathan Edward Sunde), a Wisconsin native, is now a Minneapolis, MN based songwriter/composer. Beginning in the years studying western classical music with an emphasis in vocal technique at the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire, Jon spent a decade writing beautifully unusual music with indie-folk trio The Daredevil Christopher Wright. He has since released three solo records, his most recent being “9 Songs About Love” (Vietnam Label) released November of 2020. Bob Boilen of NPR’s All Things Considered speaks of the album "as a fight against melancholy that ends up in a surpassing place — it also speaks to the notion of knowing when a good idea has turned into a great one." With an affinity for the classic American songwriters and performers like Leonard Cohen, Nina Simone, and Paul Simon, Jon writes densely poetic songs with a bent toward the philosophical.

There is subtle witty humor threaded throughout the live performance as the music pirouettes between introspective balladry and infectious bouncy folk-pop numbers. Also, his voice sounds like some sort of weird angel.

This week: Pete Henry

Peter Henry Fisk, b. 1985, is an American singer and instrumentalist. He began playing guitar at age nine, studying with Central Valley California's Craig Sorrenti and forming his first duo with Mom on the keys. By age thirteen, Pete had begun playing professionally around the Stockton and Modesto areas. At age sixteen, he was being recognized for his skills on the guitar, competing in different styles, and winning 1st prize at the Stairway to Stardom concert in 2002 with the rock group, Concrete Rose. In 2004, he received the Louis Armstrong Award and Most Outstanding Jazz Soloist Award as a member of the Escalon High School Jazz Ensemble.

Pete went on to study early music with guitar virtuoso, John Schneiderman, at the University of California, Irvine, where he earned his MFA. He was involved in a number of esteemed musical ensembles, including the UCI, OCC, & IVC Guitar Ensembles, and the Cal State Fullerton Orchestra. Meanwhile, he maintained a love and commitment to other traditions by attending blues, jazz, and folk jams around the state.

Since graduation, has Pete stayed busy as a professional musician, settling in as a singer with an extensive international tour schedule - opening act for Shine Delphi of Pennsylvania, Cowboy Diplomacy of Austin, TX and notable performances during the SXSW 2021 Festival at Native Hostel before Dave Chappelle. Though mostly a soloist now, Pete enjoys collaborating with other musicians often while sharing his one-man band arrangements of classics and original music.

Other accomplishments include compositions and sound design for screen, forming the band HIYA in 2013, the Ellenwood Kitchen Club in 2015, The Burps in 2019, and teaching guitar and music for the South Orange County Community College District. Most recently, he has moved to Southern Wisconsin, has completed two original, full-length albums, and has focused on guitar and mandolin transcriptions from early Americana to the latest contemporary songs.

McFleshman’s Saturday Fall Music Series, Over a Pint, brings you and the artists into our cozy taproom to enjoy the warmth of their music and hear the stories behind the songs.
This week: Emma Peridot

Emma Peridot is driven to create music that will capture the hearts of masses, all the while remaining unapologetic about who she is. Her alt-pop sound blends elements of pop-rock and electropop, and her lyrical content examines traditional themes of love, lust, angst and heartbreak, while also getting vulnerable about anxiety, self-doubt, and insecurity.

Her beginnings are humble; during her college years she began releasing music on Soundcloud and performing in small clubs and dive bars around Indianapolis and other nearby cities. But after securing an opening slot for Quinn XCII at Butler University, a confidence was ignited in her that she has something special. Fans have witnessed her hustle since then, and she shows no signs of stopping. As a young, LGBTQ+ pop artist, it’s all about the journey of documenting her experiences in a way that resonates with all those who feel misunderstood. She states, “If my music impacts any number of people in a meaningful way, that’s all I need to feel like I’m fulfilling my purpose.”
